What Cadets Like About Cadets

When I joined the cadet program at 12, it completely turned my life around. It was scary and uncomfortable, a stark contrast to my daily life, and encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone in order to grow. But cadets is only what you make of it. It offers opportunity, encourages growth, but it's entirely up to you to take it and move forward. I took the opportunities by volunteering, joining extra curricular activities, attending events and competitions, and I became an entirely different person. Cadets allows you to gain confidence, discover your own unique skillsets, discover who you are, open doors for the future and gain necessary life skills for the real world. It sets you up to face the real world.

Through my experience in this program, I am proud to say that I am a cadet. Being able to make new friends, participating in exciting activities (like gliding and FTXs), and improving personal skills are just a couple reasons. I was able to build my confidence and leadership skills, helping me outside of the program. For example, I gained a job opportunity with the help of cadets!

My interest in cadets stems from the fact that they offer training and credentials that are applicable to a wide range of careers. My maternal and paternal grandfathers were also in the Navy, so I was inspired by them and their medals.

I joined the air cadet program roughly 3 years ago. Since then, I have made so many fantastic friends, I've flown on military aircraft, gone to camp, and have competed in shooting competitions. The part of the program that I love so much is how us cadets get to do things that civilians can't, such as spending a few days in the woods with my buddies at CTC Blackdown. Cadets has definitely changed my life and will continue to do so, it's setting me up with the skills that I need to achieve my dream career (fighter pilot). After a year or two in the program, the squadron becomes family, and the friends I've made will stick with me for good as will the experiences that we've shared together as proud members of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets.

Hello sir, something I enjoy about being a cadet is being a part of the teams offered, such as Drill Team and Range Team. I also appreciate the many opportunities that I have been able to participate in, such as gliding.

I really like being a cadet because of all the activities I do in cadets. There are so many opportunities in the cadet program that help you learn basic life skills and will help you in the future. I really like activities like FTX, gliding, poppy campaign and tagging as they are fun and good experiences that people should know.

The cadet program gives me a sense of purpose and community. I actually care about what I do and the people I communicate with. It's really fun being able to learn skills like survival, aviation, marksmanship and drill that I know most people my age don't learn.

I like being a cadet because I get to talk to people I wouldn't ever have before, because I don't know them outside of cadets.

The Royal Air Cadets program has instilled in me the values of respect, discipline, and strength through army drill. It is a practice that also emphasizes the consistent delivery of quality. As a cadet band member and drummer, I show consistency by practicing every day.

I like being a cadet because I get to participate in opportunities and experiences I wouldn't get otherwise. I get to learn range, learning how to play an instrument that I've never touched before, and going on gliding. It has also trained me to be more alert and aware of my surroundings.

I personally really like the program due to its connection to the military and the ideologies the program pushes forward like camaraderie and responsibility, and skills like marksmanship and foot drill. Matters like that, that build from those lessons and ideologies in varying subjects, are just a few things that makes this program great and awe inspiring.

I like being a cadet because it gives me something to look forward to every monday. Being a cadet makes me feel proud because I love that I get to be a part of something that has to do with my country. In my family, the armed forces is something I am very dear to, as many of my ancestors have been a part of it. I like how we get the chance to learn how to shoot a rifle and how to glide. Having these experiences that many do not get is a privilege, and I am happy to be one that can experience it for myself.

Being a part of cadets is like being in one big family that strives to do their best. Every parade night when we do drill commands together, we work together to ensure that every movement is on time and to the best of our ability. Being a part of cadets means I get to learn and actually have fun at the same time too! From learning about aviation, learning how to use rifles and drill, we continue to make new experiences with friends, and learn from each other along the way.

I am very glad to have joined the Air Cadets. It has helped me make friends, develop public speaking skills and social skills. The Cadets program has taught me me many useful practical and survival skills. It would be helpful to all youth to join the Cadets.

I like being a Cadet because the activities are in my interests, and are fun. My grandfather who was a pilot had put interest in me for being a cadet. The skills I learn are useful for my everyday needs.

I like being a cadet to experience thrill and fun of range shooting, FTX’s and to test my patience are the most fun in this program. I can gain a lot more confidence and discipline. This program also teaches me survival skills that will be useful for emergency’s in real life. Looking forward with many more interesting programs of cadet.

I don't like being a cadet, especially since I didn't choose to be apart of the program but while being in the program I learned marching, drill, how tagging works and I also got to learn how to think out of the box so I could raise money for the cadets program, how to hold a rifle, responsibility, self confidence aswell as how to speak up for myself. I also got to meet new people in the program. Aside from all of this, during the program I missed out on several opportunities, for example the poppy campaign and range day, I missed out on these things because no one gave me the information I required so I could participate.

I like being a cadet because it gives me lots of opportunities to try new things. For example range day or tagging. Being a cadet also gives me mental and physical strength. It gives me the passion to try out for my school basketball team and it makes me want to exercise more because after exercising at cadets I feel healthy and strong and I want to feel that more. In conclusion, I like being a cadet and I persuade others to join 758 Argus as well.

What Parents Like About Cadets

“The Air Cadet program has been an amazingly influential program for my son. He joined the program at 12 and retired on his 19th birthday. The experiences, opportunities, and teams he joined helped him to become a confident leader, a disciplined team player, and a conscientious member of the community.

My daughter has just started in the program, and I have every confidence that she will benefit in the same way. As a parent, I have had the privilege of helping ensure my kids are prepared and present to participate.

Assisting the SSC with fundraising initiatives, driving cadets, etc., has given me a lot of insight into the importance of the whole family being involved in making the cadet program the best it can be. This program also has an impact on our community at large by assisting the Legion with the poppy campaign, food bank donations, and more.

I can absolutely attest to the fact that, for both cadets and parents, the more you put into this program, the more you will get out of this program.”
